Regular Meeting – September 17, 2024

The Commons (Pat Jasko Pavilion), 14070 Chillicothe Road, Novelty

President Greg Poe called the meeting to order at 6:30 P.M.  Board members present – Evan Byrum, Ed Curtis, Rick Izant, Linda Palchick, Greg Poe and Sara Sustin.  Jason Abate was also present.

The West Geauga Board of Education nominated a new Board member to fill our vacancy who was present at our meeting.  She is Kristen Foerster.  She is a resident of Novelty, has 2 children in West Geauga schools and a teacher in the Twinsburg School system.  Greg welcomed her on behalf of the Board.

The minutes from the August 2024 meeting were presented on behalf on clerk Monica Gromek in her absence.  Ed Curtis motioned to accept the minutes; Evan Byrum seconded.  Vote was taken – Ed Curtis, yes; Chris Domonkos, yes; Kristen Foerster, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Greg Poe, yes; Sara Sustin, yes.  All in favor, motion carried.

Treasurer Ed Curtis distributed the September 2024 treasurer’s report.  The treasurer’s report showed:  Ending checking balance forwarded: $32,608.45; Total disbursements: $14,802.83; Total deposits: $32,214.41;  Ending checking balance: $54,020.03; Savings balance forwarded: $24,418.35; Disbursements: -0-; Deposits: $10.01;  Ending savings balance: $24,428.36; Encumbered funds: $750.00; Unencumbered funds: $77,698.39.  Rick Izant motioned to accept the treasurer’s report.  Chris Domonkos seconded.  Vote was taken – Evan Byrum, yes; Ed Curtis, yes; Kristen Foerster, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Greg Poe, yes; Sara Sustin, yes.  All in favor, motion carried.

Sara Sustin motioned to pay the following bills:                                                                                                Abate Landscaping                        Mosquito traps, replace wood on bench, etc.                      $114.75       West Bend Insurance                          Liability Insurance coverage                                                   $2,274.00    Rick Izant seconded.  Vote was taken – Evan Btrum, yes; Ed Curtis, yes; Kristen Foerster, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Greg Poe, yes; Sara Sustin, yes  All in favor, motion carried.

Ed Curtis reviewed the budget for this year.  We received approximately $90,000.00; spent $68,240.00; have approved bills for $13,346.00; leaving $11,956.00 for the remainder of 2024.

Facilities – Linda Palchick                                                                                                                          

Linda Palchick said that both the Soccer Club and the Rec Council were presently having their youth soccer games and the Rec Council was having their men’s pick-up games once a week.  The Rec Council soccer tournament is scheduled for September 28, 2024.  She has no further requests for pavilion usage.  Greg Poe asked Linda to send a reminder letter to Tina Heffron (head of the tournament) regarding the “rules” that need to be followed about the use of The Commons for the tournament.

Maintenance – Frank Formicelli + Jason Abate

Jason Abate gave an overview of the maintenance of the park since Frank Formicelli was absent.  Jason said everything is up to date and the park is in good shape.  He noted an online comment that he saw saying “how nice the park looked”.  Ed asked Jason what he would the needs for the remainder of 2024  for the park.  Discussion followed.  It was decided to encumber $1,500 for baseball dirt to be dumped on the field for use in 2025; $500 for grindings and $2,000 to replace “dead trees” around the junior soccer field.

Old business:

WEB site - No report regarding the WEB in the absence of Frank Formicelli.                                             House Bill 47 – Greg Poe has not been able to get a legal opinion regarding the Board’s possible responsibility regarding this House Bill.  Follow-up at a later meeting.

Next meeting will be held on October 15, 2024 in the West Geauga High School Library at 7:00 P.M.  Ed Curtis motioned for meeting adjournment at 7:22 P.M.  Ric Izant seconded.  Vote was take – Evan Byrum, yes; Ed Curtis, yes; Chris Domonkos, yes; Kristen Foerster, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Greg Poe, yes; Sara Sustin, yes;  All in favor, motion carried.
