WEST GEAUGA COMMUNITY JOINT RECREATION DISTRICT

Regular Meeting – February 20, 2024

West Geauga High School Library – 13401 Chillicothe Rd. Chesterland

President Greg Poe called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. Board members present – Ed Curtis, Chris Domonkos, Frank Formicelli, John Gromek, Rick Izant, Linda Palchick and Sara Sustin. Jason Abate was also present.

The minutes from the January 2024 meeting were presented by clerk Monica Gromek. Rick Izant motioned to accept the minutes with a few corrections. Frank Formicelli seconded. Vote was taken – Ed Curtis, yes; Chris Domonkos, yes; Frank Formicelli, yes; John Gromek, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Sara Sustin, yes. Motion carried.

Treasurer Ed Curtis distributed the January 2024 treasurer’s report. The treasurer’s report showed:  Ending checking balance: $36,655.41; Total disbursements:  $1,205.00; Savings account ending balance: $21,861.54; Total deposits: $9.86; Encumbered funds: $300.00; Unencumbered funds: $58,216.95. Frank Formicelli motioned to accept the treasurer’s report. John Gromek seconded. Vote was taken – Ed Curtis, yes; Chris Domonkos, yes; Frank Formicelli, yes; John Gromek, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Sara Sustin, yes. Motion carried.

Pavilion reservations received for May and June 2024. Kelly and Chris from the WG Baseball Federation will be in attendance at our March meeting.

Website is current with information. Frank encouraged all board members to take pictures when they are at the park to post on the website.

Board discussion next with Rick Izant and our park baseball field. JFD Landscape did a great job in Bainbridge.  Chris Domonkos talked to Brian Iverson about Mayfield Heights fields. Drainage is needed at our Commons baseball field.

A quote will be needed for needed projects at the baseball field. The field needs to be prepped ready for this season to start baseball/it was not prepped for the 2023 season. Follow up then of the ease of annual regular maintenance needed. For baseball playoffs – game time maintenance will be needed.

Sarah Sustin stated that the Geauga Park Systems facilities are totally booked be the first of the year. She questioned if possibly that electricity could be connected at Rt. 306 for our park. Our charter is a dawn-to-dusk park in our Charter. The Board will revisit our lease.

We do not charge for usage rental of our park pavilion. We have no water or electricity.

New Business – Our Maintenance Contract will be reviewed our next meeting. Frank Formicelli said that Derrick Buhl, the WG high school baseball coach may be interested in usage of our baseball field. The Board will be discussing future path paving projects.

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at the West Geauga Library at 7:00 pm. Ed Curtis motioned for meeting adjournment.  John Gromek seconded.  Vote was taken – Ed Curtis, yes; Chris Domonkos, yes; Frank Formicelli, yes; John Gromek, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Sara Sustin, yes. Motion carried.
