WEST GEAUGA COMMUNITY JOINT RECREATION DISTRICT

Regular Meeting – December 19, 2023

West Geauga High School Library – 13401 Chillicothe Rd. Chesterland

President Greg Poe called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M.  Board members present – Evan Byrum, Ed Curtis, Chris Domonkos, Frank Formicelli, John Gromek, Rick Izant, Linda Palchick, Sarah Sustin, and Greg Poe.  Jason Abate was also present.

The minutes from the November 2023 meeting were presented by clerk Monica Gromek. Ed Curtis motioned to accept the minutes.  Frank Formicelli seconded.  Vote was taken – Evan Byrum, yes; Ed Curtis, yes; Chris Domonkos, yes; Frank Formicelli, yes; John Gromek, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Greg Poe, yes. Motion carried. 

Treasurer Ed Curtis distributed the November 2023 treasurer’s report.  The treasurer’s report showed:  Ending checking balance: $ 38,614.85; Total disbursements:  $40.00; Savings account ending balance: $21,843.02; Total deposits: $8.95; Encumbered funds: $400.00; Unencumbered funds: $60,057.87.  John Gromek motioned to accept the treasurer’s report.  Frank Formicelli seconded.  Vote was taken.  Motion carried.

John Gromek seconded.  Vote was taken – Evan Byrum, yes; Ed Curtis, yes; Chris Domonkos, yes; Frank Formicelli, yes; John Gromek, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Greg Poe, yes. Motion carried.

Maintenance – John Gromek and Jason Abate 

John reported ordering 3 18x24” signs from Matt Tieman/AWF Signs saying “No dogs or golfing on fields” Cost is 47.00/sign.  Signs will be placed on the upper field, middle field and baseball field.

Frank updated site with minutes.  Needs current roster of board members to post.

Greg Poe led the board members through each item in the WGCJRD bylaws, reviewing if any updates are necessary.  Chris Domonkos retyped the entire document from 7/6/79.  These bylaws are on file in Columbus, Ohio.  Ed Curtis will check with the insurance company concerning bonding. Discussion that Newbury district is now incorporated with the WG Board of Education; are any updates needed here in our bylaws. 

Sarah Sustin led discussion that there is a newly reformed Chamber of Commerce with offices in the old Novelty post office building on Rt. 306. Sarah is the Education Foundation representative.  Also, in Destination Geauga.com, there is a listing of all Geauga County parks; but The Commons is not included in the listing.

John Gromek motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:25 pm.  Rick Izant seconded.  Vote was taken – Evan Byrum, yes; Ed Curtis, yes; Chris Domonkos, yes; Frank Formicelli, yes; John Gromek, yes; Rick Izant, yes; Linda Palchick, yes; Greg Poe, yes. Motion carried.
