WEST GEAUGA COMMUNITY JOINT RECREATION DISTRICT

MARCH 15, 2022

Treasurer Ed Curtis called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm at the West Geauga Library Gilson meeting room. President and Vice President absent. Board members present – Mick Benitez-Santana, Ed Curtis, Rick Izant, Linda Palchick, and Sara Sustin. Jason Abate also in attendance.

The minutes from the February meeting were presented. Rick Izant motioned to accept the minutes. Mick Benitez-Santana seconded. Vote was taken Mick, yes; Ed, yes; Rick, yes; Linda, yes; Sara, yes. All in favor, motion carried.

The February treasurer’s report was distributed by Treasurer Ed Curtis. The treasurer’s report showed: Ending checking balance: $28,441.03; Total disbursements: $325.00; Total deposits: $0; Encumbered funds: $10,600.00; Unencumbered funds: $39,551.57. Rick Izant motioned to accept the treasurer’s report; Vote was taken. Mick, yes; Ed, yes; Rick, yes; Linda, yes; Sara, yes. All in favor, motion carried. Rick Izant motioned to pay the following bill:

Abate Landscaping snowplowing 4 @ 75.00 $300.00 Mick Benitez-Santana seconded. Vote was taken. Mick, yes; Ed, yes; Rick, yes; Linda, yes; Sara, yes. All in favor, motion carried.

Facilities – Linda Palchick: West Geauga Soccer Club will begin games on April 24, 2022. Two phone requests were received for pavilion usage: no written applications so far.

Maintenance –Jason Abate Ed walked the grounds noted some problems which were discussed with the Board and Jason.

1) Both bathroom interiors are in need of painting. Jason will get estimates from the Painter we used previously.

2) Roof (concrete) is leaking in the new bathroom. Sidley needs to be contacted. Jason will do.

3) Ed noted the need to repair fence posts in the fence along the river side; he also suggested adding 2 new sections to extend the fence to prevent anyone from

getting too close to the river. After discussion, Mick Benitez-Santana motioned to encumber $550.00for fence repairs and the new fence installation. Rick Izant seconded. Vote was taken. Mick, yes; Ed, yes; Rick, yes; Linda, yes; Sara, yes. All in favor, motion carried.

Jason noted that the fertilizer would cost $45/bag this year, compared to $25/bag last year. Thereby greatly increasing the cost of fertilization to Abates. The Board agreed to re-imburse Abates for the increased cost they would be forced to incur this year. Rick Izant motioned to pay Abates the additional cost of fertilizer this season. Mick Benitez-Santana seconded. Vote was taken. Mick, yes; Ed, yes; Rick, yes; Linda, yes; Sara, yes. All in favor, motion carried.

Old Business – The approved February minutes will be added to the website. Ed Curtis noted that the last MSD application dates of application was from 2018. Jason will contact Mick when he applies the next time. A discussion followed regarding the calendar on the site that was never used. Mick will remove this from the website (and add later if needed). Mick will also correct the date of our monthly meeting (the 3rd Tuesday of the month), from the previous 2nd Wednesday of each month.

Sara Sustin reported that there is no update yet. She has the name of a Newbury resident to add for an estimate plus the original Amish contact and Jason Abate’s contact. 3 estimates will be submitted at the April 2022 Board Meeting.

No new business. Next meeting will be April 19, 2022, at the library.
