MINUTES FROM THE REGULAR MEETING

WEST GEAUGA COMMUNITY JOINT RECREATION DISTRICT

November 16, 2021

President Greg Poe called the meeting to order at 7:04 pm at West Geauga Library Gilson Room. Board members present – Ed Curtis, Frank Formicelli, John Gromek, Rick Izant, Linda Palchick. Greg Poe, and Sara Sustin. Jason Abate also present.

The minutes from the October meeting presented. Ed Curtis motioned to accept the minutes. John Gromek seconded. Vote was taken. Ed, yes; Frank, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Linda, yes; Greg, yes; Sara, yes. All in favor, motion carried.

The October treasurer’s report was distributed by Treasurer Ed Curtis. The treasurer’s report showed: Ending checking balance: $32,557.41; Total disbursements: $25.00; Total deposits: $480.17; Encumbered funds: $3,500.00; Unencumbered funds: $50,767.23. Frank Formicelli motioned to accept the treasurer’s report; John Gromek seconded. Vote was taken. Ed, yes; Frank, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Linda, yes; Greg, yes; Sara, yes. All in favor, motion carried.

Linda Palchick motioned the following bills be paid Monica Gromek November minutes $ 25.00 Abate Landscaping Remove dead cherry tree $ 325.00 Sean McGinnis Eagle Scout sign project $ 757.70

Rick Izant seconded. Vote was taken. Ed, yes; Frank, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Linda, yes; Greg, yes; Sara, yes. All in favor, motion carried.

John Gromek motioned to unencumber $1,500.00 for sealcoating of the basketball court. It will be done in 2022. Frank Formicelli seconded. Vote was taken. Ed, yes; Frank, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Linda, yes; Greg, yes; Sara, yes. All in favor, motion carried.

Facilities – Linda Palchick No more Men’s Sunday soccer. Jason Abate took down the nets. The Park is ready for Winter. Suggests we put an article together to submit to newspapers about the new signs along the path / Eagle Scout Project.

Maintenance – John Gromek and Jason Abate Jason Abate dragged the trails and fertilized all the fields. He is getting the park ready for winter. The completed tree signs along the .67-mile path are wonderful. A beautiful addition to The Commons. Linda will obtain information from WG Rec Council about the Velcro strips they used for the tournament. It is better to use them instead of the tie wraps we presently use for

the nets. Jason reported there are 8 dead ash trees and 2 dead cherry trees at the park. John Gromek motioned to encumber $2,000.00 to remove these trees. Frank Formicelli seconded. Vote was taken. Ed, yes; Frank, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Linda, yes; Greg, yes; Sara, yes. All in favor, motion carried.

Old Business – Sara Sustin left message with Auburn Career Center. This sign project will be revisited over the winter for pricing and design; for it to be installed in the spring. The basketball court resealing will also be done in the spring. John Gromek will visit Playground World to discuss ADA requirements.

LEVY – Information must be given to the public, that the West Geauga Community Joint Recreation Board is an independent entity; not associated with the Board of Education, the Geauga Park District, or the West Geauga Recreation Council. The tax levy is the only income that maintains the park.

A committee will be formed for the Levy. Discussion to hold an information meeting inviting Newbury representatives to our board meeting for discussion.

Next meeting Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at 7:00 pm in the Gilson Room of the West Geauga Library.
