MINUTES FROM THE REGULAR MEETING

WEST GEAUGA COMMUNITY JOINT RECREATION DISTRICT

September 21, 2021

President Greg Poe called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm at the pavilion of The Commons Park. Board members present –Ed Curtis, John Gromek, Rick Izant, Linda Palchick. Greg Poe, and Sara Sustin. Jason Abate also present.

The minutes from the August meeting presented. Ed Curtis motioned to accept the minutes. Rick Izant seconded. Vote was taken. Ed, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Linda, yes; Greg, yes; Sara, yes. All in favor, motion carried.

The August treasurer’s report was distributed by Treasurer Ed Curtis. The treasurer’s report showed:  Ending checking balance: $37,693.64; Total disbursements: $11,065.73; Total deposits: $28.540.91; Encumbered funds: $4,000.00; Unencumbered funds: $54,923.12. John Gromek motioned to accept the treasurer’s report; Linda Palchick seconded. Vote was taken. Ed, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Linda, yes; Greg, yes; Sara, yes. All in favor, motion carried.

Facilities – Linda Palchick                                                                                                             Soccer games scheduled until October 17.  October 9 is the Rec Council tournament.  New group running this event; very unorganized.  No permit submitted yet.  May use only 1 field.  5 teams competing?  Received 1 pavilion request for October 2021.

Maintenance – John Gromek and Jason Abate                                                                               Jason dragged the trail.  Posts are in the ground in concrete for the new tree signs along the path.  Rick Izant questioned that half of the cherry tree fell.  Looks like the tree base is dead.  Ed Curtis said there are many dead trees in the park.  John Gromek motioned to encumber $500.00 in case this cherry tree needs to be removed.  Rick Izant seconded.  Vote was taken. Ed, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Linda, yes; Greg, yes; Sara, yes. All in favor, motion carried.

Jason reported that 10 guys will arrive from Mexico on October 1, 2021 and will stay until November 30, 2021.  Discussion to shore up the path by the Baseball field as it washes out continually.  The baseball field is overgrown till next year.  Crabgrass will die after the 1^st frost. 

Signposts have been dug by Jason Abate and Greg Poe, with concrete.  The path has been dragged and also the volleyball court.  All the benches look really good after their refurbishing.

Discussion on the grills by the pavilion; and also, replacement of the broken, old merry-go-round.  John Gromek showed some ideas of replacement playground pieces.  Rick Izant will check on the ADA compliance guidelines if needed for our playground.  No fire rings.  Present grills should be straightened out.  All information will be gathered so it can be installed in spring 2022. 

Sara Sustin reported she contacted Aurora Career Center for them to build our new Park Board information sign for next summer.  They can build the sign there but cannot install onsite.  No problem, as we can get it here to install at the Park.  The Amish carpenter quoted 2400.00 but is booked till December; did not seem interested.  The old sign can be removed by Jason Abate.  More discussion at our next meeting.   

Next meeting Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at 7:00 pm in the Gilson Room of the West Geauga Library.
