MINUTES FROM THE REGULAR MEETING

WEST GEAUGA COMMUNITY JOINT RECREATION DISTRICT

MAY 18, 2021

President Greg Poe called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm at the pavilion of The Commons Park.  Board members present – Mick Benitez-Santana; Ed Curtis, Frank Formicelli, John Gromek, Rick Izant, Bernie Mandel, Linda Palchick, Greg Poe and Sara Sustin.  Jason Abate also present.

The minutes from the April meeting presented by clerk, Monica Gromek.  John Gromek motioned to accept the minutes.  Bernie Mandel seconded.  Vote was taken.  Mick, yes; Ed, yes; Frank, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes; Greg, yes; Sara, yes. All in favor, motion carried. 

The April treasurer’s report was distributed by Treasurer Ed Curtis. The treasurer’s report showed:  Ending checking balance: $42,651.72; Total disbursements: $7,065.00; Total deposits: $4,083.92; Encumbered funds: $3,500.00; Unencumbered funds: $60,380.49.  Bernie Mandel motioned to accept the treasurer’s report; Rick Izant seconded.  Vote was taken.  Mick, yes; Ed, yes; Frank, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes; Greg, yes; Sara, yes. All in favor, motion carried.

Facilities – Linda Palchick                                                                                                              Soccer games have been cancelled because of rain.  The lower soccer field will be used Monday and Thursday by Rec Council and Tuesday and Wednesday by Soccer Club.  3 pavilion requests have been received.  The Middle School and High School fields are not available for play.

Maintenance – John Gromek and Jason Abate                                                                                Jason installed new battery-operated sanitizer dispensers. Baseball Federation unable to get red crushed brick for the infield at baseball field.  They will put down clay in the infield.  Jason estimates 12-15 yds of dirt.  Discussion of the Hollywood bases to be installed – Jason has 4 bases (bought by the Board) and 1 plug.  Jason put portable bases down.  Pony and Colt leagues have different base settings.  Hollywood bases must be installed properly.   Our merry-go-round needs attention. 

The tree we receive from Arbor Day will be and October Glory maple.

Bench Update – 5 wooden benches need attention at the Park. They were last painted a long time ago; some boards need replacing.  Linda wrote a letter to the Boy Scout leader for help on this project.  Sara Sustin has swim team boys that could help with this projected.  Do benches need sandblasting before refinishing?

Greg Poe presented the 2021-2022 Slate of Officers. President: Greg Poe; Vice-President: Bernie Mandel; Treasurer: Ed Curtis, Treasurer; Linda Palchick: Secretary.  Discussion for new nominees.  The present WGCJRB officers agreed to serve another term.  Rick Izant motioned to accept the present slate of officers for the next year term.  John Gromek seconded.  Vote was taken.  Mick, yes; Ed, yes; Frank, yes; John, yes; Rick, yes; Bernie, yes; Linda, yes; Greg, yes; Sara, yes. All in favor, motion carried.  

Bernie Mandel said we should have signs posted that The Board is not liable for injury situations; and a sign should be posted.  Bernie will compose the wording. 

Board discussion on the new Park sign specifications.  More discussion will be held at our next month’s meeting.
