MINUTES FROM THE REGULAR MEETING

WEST GEAUGA COMMUNITY JOINT RECREATION DISTRICT

May 9, 2018     

Meeting was called to order by President Walt Waetjen at 7:00 pm at the Commons pavilion. Roll call was taken by clerk, Monica Gromek. Board members present:

Greg Poe, possible future WGCJRB trustee and Jason Abate also present.  

The minutes for the: April 2018 meeting were presented. Ed Curtis motioned to accept the minutes. Rick Izant seconded. Vote was taken:

All in favor, motion carried.

The Treasurer’s report for April 2018 was distributed by treasurer, Ed Curtis. The April treasurer’s report showed: Ending checking balance: $27,931.61; Total disbursements: $7,050.63; Total deposits: $4,114.11; Encumbered funds: $2,015.00; Unencumbered funds: $49,685.17. John Gromek motioned to accept the treasurer’s report; Bernie Mandel seconded. Vote was taken: 

All in favor, motion carried. The Budget hearing will be August 14 in Chardon

Facilities – Linda Palchick – The fields were closed in April. Now they are good; opened. No requests for the pavilion. Soccer tryouts next Wednesday, May 16.

Maintenance – John Gromek – The grass on all the fields looks good. Jason Abate weeded and did a general cleanup of the park. The key lock on the baseball fields needs to be changed to a combination lock. Discussion by the Board members, decision to leave the lock off for now. The bottom latrine toilet seat was kicked and cracked. Needs to be replaced.

Linda Palchick attended the Eagle Scout presentation on April 28 for Xavier Zup. Need to put this information on our web page. Plus, picture of Kirk by the park bench.

Playground – Rick Izant – $6150.00 pledged monetary donations: $500.00 from Lions Club; $4,650.00 Kiwanis Club; $1,000.00 Soccer Club. Walt Waetjen will attend the Russell Township meeting to explain the playground project. Refurbish playground $22 K.

Website – Mick Benitez-Santana – Walt Waetjen said he saw Fran Zanheiser at the park taking pictures. Walt will reach out to her to post some of her pictures on our website. Get on the website to check it out. We are also on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Mick shall use the new Park logo throughout.

Greg Poe was a visitor to this meeting. He will write a letter to Chester Township Trustees requesting appointment to the Board; replacing Don Drockton.

Bernie Mandel motioned for meeting adjournment at 7:28 pm. Ed Curtis seconded. Vote was taken:
