MINUTES FROM THE REGULAR MEETING

WEST GEAUGA COMMUNITY JOINT RECREATION DISTRICT

May 17, 2017         

Meeting was called to order by President Walt Waetjen at 7:00 pm at the West Geauga Commons pavilion. Roll call was taken by clerk, Monica Gromek. Board members present: Mick Benitez-Santana, Ed Curtis, Frank Formicelli, John Gromek, and Linda Palchick. Jason Abate was present. Other attendees: Kevin Weenink, a regular park user, Christina Formicelli, Scout Richard Kirk and Scott Wayt, a trustee of WG Soccer Club.

The minutes for the: April 2017 meeting were presented by secretary, Linda Palchick. Ed Curtis motioned to accept the minutes. John Gromek seconded. Vote was taken: Mick, yes; Ed, yes; Frank, yes; John, yes; Linda, yes; and Walt, yes; All in favor, motion carried.

The Treasurer’s report for April 2017 was distributed by treasurer, Ed Curtis. The April treasurer’s report showed: Ending checking balance: $33,927.25; Total disbursements: $6,513.43; Total deposits: $4,629.89; Unencumbered funds: $54,058.93; Encumbered funds: $6,400.00. Linda Palchick motioned to accept the treasurer’s report; John Gromek seconded. Vote was taken: Mick, yes; Ed, yes; Frank, yes; John, yes; Linda, yes; and Walt, yes; All in favor, motion carried.

Linda Palchick motioned to pay:     Monica Gromek       May 2017 minutes       $25.00                                                                                                                                                                                       Frank Formicelli seconded the motion. Facilities – Linda Palchick 

Fields were closed June 15 because of rain. Board member Rick Izant is also on the Geauga Y Board. The Geauga Y has expressed interest to use The Commons for 9 weeks this summer. 10:00 am to 2:30 pm on Thursdays only. Possibly 50 kids will attend.   3 dates have been received for soccer, volleyball and baseball usage. There was discussion by Board of groups outside our tax district that want to use the park. The Board believes the park should be utilized. Fee: $50.00 /day x 9 weeks.  There are 6 reservations for pavilion usage thus far.

Maintenance – John Gromek

Jason Abate said the fence has been installed by the volleyball court – to help deter cars driving on the court. The trails are dragged. There is erosion by the baseball field.                                                      Richard Kirk, a boy scout from Troop 195 is interested in helping the Park. Project: remove and move back the bench at the river; and respot it. Richard needs the board approval for the project so he can move forward. Board will need cost estimate and summary of his project.

Old Business   

A meeting between Jason Abate, John Benedict, Walt Waetjen and Eugene DiFranco was held at the baseball field. The field will need baseball dirt approx. cost $4 to $8 K. Baseball Federation and The Board will split the cost. Frank Formicelli motioned to encumber an additional $1,000.00 for baseball field prep. Linda Palchick seconded. Vote was taken: Mick, yes; Ed, yes; Frank, yes; John, yes; Linda, yes; and Walt, yes; All in favor, motion carried.

More usage is needed for the baseball field. Frank Formicelli reported there will be no baseball tournament on the field this year.

Playground – Frank Formicelli reports that the Lions Club is considering donating $500.00 to the project. The club also is offering their labor for the playground.

A quote has been received from Asphalt Fabricators and Specialties Inc. to chip n seal areas of the drive. Jason Abate said he can do the project for $3,400.00. Ed Curtis will check with Chester Township if we can piggy back on their asphalt, as we did last year. John Gromek motioned to encumber $12,900.00 for installation of single chip seal and drive culvert repair. Linda Palchick seconded. Vote was taken: Mick, yes; Ed, yes; Frank, yes; John, yes; Linda, yes; and Walt, yes; All in favor, motion carried.
